Local notes to help you plan the trip to the airport.
Luton is the airport most of our Bedford customers fly from, about 28 miles and 40 minutes from the town centre. Heathrow comes next. It is 30 miles further than Luton but usually takes around 1 hour 10 minutes, slightly less than the 1 hour 15 minutes to Stansted, even though Stansted is 12 miles closer. If your trip is on offer from more than one airport, compare the drive before you book. All of these take longer at busy times.
Bedford station has direct trains to Luton Airport Parkway, roughly 20 to 30 minutes, and the DART shuttle then reaches the terminal in under four minutes. There are no direct trains from Bedford St Johns. The Stagecoach MK1 bus leaves Bedford bus station about once an hour and takes around 1 hour 25 minutes. A car makes more sense from Bromham, Great Barford or anywhere without a station nearby, with children or heavy cases, or for a very early flight. We collect from your door at any hour, and the airport charge is included in the fare.
We collect from Bedford Hospital on Kempston Road, the University of Bedfordshire’s Bedford campus and Cranfield University, as well as from any home, hotel or office. Arriving to study or to visit family? Give us your flight number and we track the flight, so the pickup moves with a delay at no extra cost, and your driver waits 45 minutes free from the time you land. Tell us the building or hall of residence when you book.
