The Pick Up Zone
The Drop Off and Pick Up Zone is the closest place to collect someone, a short walk from the terminal.
- Cost: £9 for up to 12 minutes, then £1 for each extra minute.
- Time limit: leave within 30 minutes. Staying longer brings a £95 charge (£55 if paid within 14 days), enforced by cameras.
- Paying: there are no barriers and no cash. Your number plate is recorded as you enter, and you pay online by midnight the following day.
- Getting there: use postcode LU2 9QT. Near the roundabout before the tunnel, ignore your satnav and follow the Drop Off / Pick Up Zone signs. There are two entrances.
- Stay with your car: vehicles left unattended are towed and fined.
The free option: Long Stay car park
If you don’t mind a short bus ride, the Long Stay car park is free for up to 2 hours.
- Use postcode LU2 9NW, take a ticket at the barrier and park in any space.
- A free shuttle bus runs to the terminal every 20 minutes, 24 hours a day, and takes about 10 minutes.
- Your passenger catches it back from Bus Bay B, just outside the terminal.
- Leave within 2 hours and your entry ticket opens the exit barrier. Over 2 hours, pay at the machine first (£7 for 3 hours).
Timing tips
- Check the flight, not the timetable. Look up the actual landing time before you set off.
- Wait until they have their bags. Passport control and baggage reclaim take time, and the Pick Up Zone charge starts when you drive in. Ask your passenger to call when they are walking out.
- Keep the Long Stay option for long waits. If the flight is late or the queues are long, the free 2 hours goes much further than the zone’s 30 minutes.
