Milton Keynes to Heathrow is about 55 miles. There are three main ways to make the trip: a taxi from your door to your terminal, the train via central London, or a direct coach from Milton Keynes Coachway. This guide compares them honestly, so you can choose the one that suits your flight, your luggage and your budget.

Train and coach details are taken from the operators’ and Heathrow’s own websites and were checked in October 2026. Timetables change, so check before you travel.

Milton Keynes to Heathrow by train

There is no direct train. The usual route is:

  1. Milton Keynes Central to London Euston: the fastest Avanti West Coast trains take as little as 32 minutes, and around 35 minutes on average.
  2. Euston to Heathrow: Heathrow suggests the Northern line to Tottenham Court Road, then the Elizabeth line, which takes around 55 minutes. Or go from Euston to Paddington and take the Heathrow Express, which reaches Heathrow Central in 15 minutes, every 15 minutes, with Terminal 5 another six minutes on.

Adding the legs together, allow roughly 1½ to 2 hours from Milton Keynes Central, plus the time to get to the station. Another option is a train to Watford Junction and the RailAir RA3 coach to Heathrow, which runs about once an hour and serves Terminals 2 and 3.

The train works well if you are travelling light in the daytime. With several large cases, children or an early flight, changing in central London is the hardest part.

Milton Keynes to Heathrow by coach

National Express runs direct coaches from Milton Keynes Coachway, on the A509 near junction 14 of the M1, to Heathrow:

  • Route 230: 12 coaches a day, every day, including some in the middle of the night. It takes about 1 hour 40 minutes to 1 hour 55 minutes to Heathrow Central Bus Station (Terminals 2 and 3), then goes on to Terminal 5, with some trips also calling at Terminal 4. It stops at Luton Airport on the way.
  • Route 240: 2 coaches a day, calling at Heathrow Central, then Terminals 4 and 5.

Coach fares start low if you book ahead, but cheap seats are limited. Luggage is limited too: National Express allows one large suitcase (up to 75 × 50 × 32 cm and 20 kg), or two medium cases if there is space, plus one small soft bag. The Coachway is on the edge of the city, so you also need a way to get there.

Milton Keynes to Heathrow by taxi

A taxi takes you from your door to your terminal with no changes and no luggage limits beyond the vehicle’s size. From central Milton Keynes it is about 55 miles and usually a little over an hour, though the M1 and M25 can be slow at peak times, so allow extra time.

Which should you choose?

  • Travelling alone and light, on a budget: the coach is likely to cost the least.
  • Travelling light in the daytime and happy to change trains: the train.
  • A family or group, lots of luggage, or a very early or late flight: a taxi, because there are no changes and the fare is shared. Our early-morning and late-night flights guide explains when to leave.
